December 2018 openings

The shops and island points opened in December in FORTGROUP malls total area is almost 9,500 square meters. “M.Video” and “Eldorado” took up most of this area (76%), which finished their rebranding before the New Year’s festivals on the areas freed by electronics and household appliances hypermarket network Media Markt, which left the Russian market.

“M.Video” (3,019 square meters) opened in Saint Petersburg’s “Evropolis”, and MediaMarkt areas were divided by “M.Video” (2,886 square meters) and “Eldorado” (1,366 square meters) in “Zolotoy Vavilon Rostokino”, the biggest FORTGROUP mall in Moscow. A part of the facilities earlier occupied by Mediamarkt has been freed up for the operators of other trade segments as a result of both malls’ rebranding. This corresponds to the current tendency defined by FORTGROUP managing partner Maksim Levchenko in his recent commentary for MarketMedia resource: “The trading format is changing unnoticeably, but powerfully: the electronics portion in malls is decreasing, while the fashion brands part and especially the food part are, oppositely, increasing.

The total fashion-segment in December openings total area makes up 558 square meters. A multi-brand “21 shop” streetwear shop (154 square meters) in “Evropolis”, a Kristina&Milan footwear shop (164 square meters) in Saint Petersburg’s “London Mall” and a Truvor men’s wear shop (92 square meters) in “Pyataya Avenue” mall (Moscow) are the biggest shops opened in this segment.

Generally, a “Bukvoed” book store on 446 square meters in Saint Petersburg “Port Nakhodka” mall became the shop with the biggest area opening in December in FORTGROUP objects, not counting “M.Video” and “Eldorado” opening as the rebranding result. They are followed by “Respublika”, another book network shop (250 square meters) opened in “Evropolis” mall. We remind you that the “Chitay-Gorod”-“Bukvoed” united network is the first in the top 10 book shop networks according to MarketMedia. They have 143 shops now. With 30 shops in the four biggest Russian metropolises, “Respublika” closes the top 10.

We will also point out that Cozy Home in “Zolotoy Vavilon Rostokino (249.5 square meters) and Bella Star (53.16 square meters) in “Pyataya Avenue” Moscow mall as the December openings in the household products segment.

A FireWok pan-Asian cuisine restaurant in “Akadem-Park” (Saint Petersburg), a Musetti coffee shop in “Yuzhniy Polyus” (Saint Petersburg) and a Cinnabon bakery café in Saint Petersburg’s “City Mall” were added to the food segment operator pool in December.

Cinnabon and its neighbor Samsung are designed in accordance with the CITY SQUARE space design concept, developed in “City Mall” central atrium within the continuing new concept program. Particularly, the Samsung salon has seven-meter showcases made out of innovative glass. Such showcases will appear in all CITY SQUARE shops, and these showcases’ height will be expanded to five meters in City Avenue and City Boulevard fashion galleries skirting the atrium first floor central part. Generally, the central atrium space became lighter and more spacious. It has opened for guests on December 28, 2018 after the main new concept work took its place.
